When you think of the Rockton Lions, you might think of Old Settlers Days (OSD). You might also think of community involvement. During the Rockton Christmas Walk, you could consider the pancake breakfast provided with sensitive Santa, or the help the Lions gave to light Settler’s Park, or best of all, the Wimpy’s Auction. The Rockton Lions are involved in all of these and have a true tie to the Rockton community through all the service they provide.
The Rockton Lions took over Wimpy’s calling. The drive for this project originated decades ago when an officer, Everett Vaughan, from the Rockton Police force began helping local children with hats, gloves, and coats during the winter months. This effort grew into what the Rockton Lions do today. The Wimpy’s Auction helps provide funding for Wimpy’s Fund. Wimpy’s Fund, in turn, provides holiday treatment – from decorations, to food, to presents – for families in need.
The Rockton Lions take pride in participating in events like the Rockton Christmas Walk and enjoy serving the community. This 77 year-old club, has assisted many groups and individuals over the years and thanks the support given by the community that allows them to continue their work. If you are interested in helping Wimpy’s Fund or have specific questions, please contact Lion Tami Verstraete via email at [email protected]. You can also donate at the First National Bank Macktown or mail them directly to the Rockton Lions Club, PO Box 90, Rockton, Illinois 61072. Please write “Wimpy’s” in the memo portion of your check.
Happy Holidays from the Rockton Lions!
